Horton

2012: Horton Recipient Announcement

The Horton Scholarship:
This scholarship is designed for an engineering student in University Honors who has a talent in the arts. (How could I not apply??) The student must design a trip to a foreign country to pursue an educational experience in his/her field of study. In addition, the student will earn knowledge in the humanities and social sciences.
So far, I have taken two amazing courses as a result of this scholarship: a tutorial with Dr. Charles "Jack" Dudley covering economics, public administration, and anthropology, and the course Engineering Cultures. Both have certainly opened my mind to the world outside of the United States and now I'm ready to experience it!

Check out the Scholarship!

 The Hortons:
The lovely couple on the right-hand side of the picture above are Drs. Wayne and Claire Horton. Dr. Wayne Horton is a former graduate from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech and Dr. Claire Horton is a former professor of anthropology. I have had the pleasure of having dinners with them and they are a hoot! Claire has a lot of spunk left in her and was thrilled about my former tutorial with Dr. Dudley. Dr. Wayne Horton and I have a lot in common, including we are both watching our cholesterol! Not only has this couple given me the opportunity to advance myself in both of my majors, but they have given me an excuse to reach out to some of the most amazing professors here at VT. Total, I have had meetings with eight professors!
